Larry Leverett

LARRY LEVERETT

Dr. Larry Leverett graduated Virginia State University with a degree in elementary education and completed his Master’s and Doctorate degrees at Teachers College, Columbia University.  Leverett’s career in education is driven by his passion for equity and social justice.  These convictions have shaped his approach to educational leadership in a variety of roles in education at the local, state and national level.   He has been an elementary classroom teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, superintendent, graduate school professor and elected school board member.  Leverett also served as Assistant Commissioner of Urban Education in the New Jersey Department of Education and superintendent in Englewood, New Jersey; Plainfield, New Jersey; and Greenwich, Connecticut.  Dr. Leverett served as the Executive Director of the Panasonic Foundation where is launched the New Jersey Network of Superintendents, a community of practice for superintendents and senior district leaders involving 16 urban and suburban school districts focused on systemic approaches to equity and excellence in public education.
